Ralph Eggleston spent the early days of his career as one of the storyboards for the early episodes of the Simpsons, Most notibally was the  Krusty Gets Busted (1990).

Ralp Eggleston is a key figure in the world of animation and film. One of the main reasons behind this is that he has always strived upon improving his latest releases. One key example of this is the 1995 hit “Toy Story”, many people thought that this couldnt made better and improved upon as it was one of the first CGI Films. However, it was with the smash hit Monsters Inc which was voted one of the Best Snimstion film in 2003.

So therefore, Ralph Eggleston is a key figure in animation due to his talents in making better and better creations which are shown in the more later creations such as monsters inc and The incredibles. Another key part of his sucess has been that he has always followed the same process in the creation he has been an integral part of. Also he is a key figure as he has talents in many fields of creating. For example he was involved in the creating of the Krusty gets Busted episode of the simpson aswell as being involved in the storyboarding in the inagural first episode of the simpsons and the 1994 film Beverley Hills Cop.

He has been involved in both the animation and art department in his films. He has spent much of his career in both the art department and animation department and has alwasys worked in both fields, which shows he has multiple talents in the creating of both animations and films throughout his career.

Other films which Ralph Eggleston has been involved in creating and producing include;

My key figure, Ralph Eggleston, who works for pixar, fits into the history of computer graphics and animation. The way how he fits into the history is as a follower, following the advancement in technology throughout previous years. Ralph Eggleston is a follower because they were the first set of artists who could use advanced technology to make image or clips in a new format. Pixar was one of the effects companies which were one of the original followers. This is shown in Pixar’s 1996 film Toy Story, which Ralph Eggleston was a graphic director in the hit film. Toy Story was one of the first fully 3D CGI films and is often credited as being the first fully 3D animated production.

Animation production pipeline

 Dreamworks pipleine
Firstly, dreamworks create the script for the animation. Dreamworks say that the script took up to 4 months to be finalized.
Following the final scripting, the dreamworks animators create a series of storyboards.Once all storyboards are created all the storyboards, they join these up to form a comic book, showing all the ideas for the animation.
Following this, once the storyboards are approved, the drawings are digitally enhanced, to form a “story reel.”They pair this with temporary music, sound effect and dialogue. This can take up to 18 Months.
Visual development
Once the story reel has begun, the visual department develop the tone, style and effects to every frame.
Our storyboards are drawn, our characters and sets are designed, so now we need to find voices for our characters and start recording their lines. We record the actors before we start animating.

From this initial design, our modellers will construct the digital 3-D model we’ll use for planning and animation.

This is when the modelers start with this wire frame sculpture that is called an armature, that breaks down our design and allows us to “rig” the figure, which will give the animator the ability to move our 3-D figure in whatever way is necessary to get the movement which is needed.

Basic surfaces

Once the armature is set up, we can begin to add basic surfaces. LayoutLayout artists use rough “stand-in” shapes to block out the movement of the character in the scene. This rough layout or animatic is the process from which the team determine camera movement, character placement, spacing, lighting, geography and scene timing.

Character animation Once the sequence is working well in layout, the animators start bringing the characters to life in the computer. They articulate the thousands of controls that were created during the character-rigging phase to bring each character to life and to synchronize them to the voice performances.Effects

After the camera moves have been set and the characters have been animated, the next steps are effects and lighting.

Next we visualize how the surrounding environment is reflected in the wave like a mirror.

The finishing touches

They say that many of the dreamworks films take at least 4 years to produce for cinema.
